The Last Frontier: Surgical Extrusion

Session

Dr. Mary Chien

Course description

Teeth with severe loss of structure are often condemned due to difficulty of restoration or violation of biologic width. A crown lengthening procedure may be considered, but ostectomy or osteoplasty may compromise adjacent teeth in unfavorable situations. Surgical extrusion involves controlled luxation and extrusion of the teeth. It may be compared with extrusive luxation of teeth, which has a comparably favorable prognosis.

This lecture will describe the controlled surgical extrusion of restoratively compromised endodontically treated teeth.
